Array Labs, Umbra Space and Raytheon have entered into a teaming agreement to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced 3D Earth observation capabilities to commercial and government customers.

Under the strategic partnership, the parties will combine their experience and expertise in space systems and advanced imaging capabilities to enhance the technologies that power Site3D, the collaboration’s flagship product, Array Labs said Monday. The partner companies also aim to expand the customer base for 3D data and promote its adoption across various industries.

Solving Customers’ Real-World Problems

According to Array Labs CEO Andrew Peterson, the collaborative effort will educate customers, deliver 3D data products to market faster and launch satellite imaging clusters. “Ultimately, Site3D represents a commitment to solving real-world problems for customers today while building towards the end state of a real-time, high-fidelity 3D map of Earth,” he explained.

Through the agreement, Raytheon’s 3D processing algorithms are used for synthetic aperture radar, or SAR, applications, noted Erich Hernandez-Baquero, vice president of space intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance at Raytheon. “This opens exciting new opportunities in commercial SAR and allows us to achieve accurate results, unrestricted by cloud coverage,” he added.

Creating 3D Models of Earth’s Surface

Scheduled for commercial launch in the coming months, Site3D fuses SAR technology with mapping algorithms to create 3D models of the Earth’s surface. The product offers customizable tasking with support for regular revisits, monitoring use cases and change detection capabilities.

As part of the collaboration, the companies will enable Site3D to support commercial, defense, intelligence and civilian geospatial applications. They will also develop advanced automated tasking, 3D analytics, visualization and volumetric measurement tools.
