REI Systems has secured a $37.5 million recompete contract from the Department of Defense to continue upgrading the agency’s Defense SBIR/STTR Innovation Portal system.

Under the five-year deal, awarded under the Phase III Small Business Innovation Research authority, work with the DOD on the DSIP modernization project will continue, REI said Monday.

Platform Updates to Advance Innovation

According to REI Systems CEO Shyam Salona, the collaborative effort enabled cloud migration and system modernization for the DSIP platform, supporting the DOD’s objective to promote small business innovation. “Winning this recompete reflects our success, and we are eager to explore new opportunities, including the integration of artificial intelligence, in the next phase of this partnership.”

Redesign and Other System improvements

To date, REI has supported the portal’s transformation into a cloud-based framework that boasts of an intuitive user interface and a microservices architecture. The redesign simplifies the platform’s application process, allowing DOD components to advance innovative ideas more efficiently.

Specifically, REI’s work further enhanced DSIP’s user-friendly features and increased its system uptime. REI’s system improvements also allowed the Office of the Secretary of Defense to submit reports on time and maintain greater accountability with Congress.

Moving forward, REI will employ artificial intelligence tools to boost the DSIP platform’s capabilities, including intelligent search, risk management and customer service, and better serve DOD components and small businesses.
