General Atomics Stockpile Stewardship Program Contract Renewed - top government contractors - best government contracting event

The National Nuclear Security Administration has renewed its contract with General Atomics Energy Group for the continued production and delivery of research components in support of the Stockpile Stewardship Program. GA said Thursday that the renewed contract comes with an initial 5-year term and an optional 5-year extension.

Producing Ignition Targets

Part of the company’s work under the contract involves the fabrication of ignition targets that would be bombarded by lasers to bring about a controlled release of energy. The data collected by researchers under such experiments helps the U.S. maintain a reliable nuclear deterrent without underground testing.

Continuing Collaboration With NNSA

Commenting on the award, Paul Fitzsimmons, technical director for inertial fusion technology at the General Atomics Energy Group, said his organization is proud of its decades-long collaboration with NNSA. He added that the new contract “truly reflects the NNSA’s confidence in General Atomics as a strategic partner, while facilitating enduring investments that will support and shape the future of this dynamic program.”
