Metron and Cellula Robotics have presented to their customers the defense and commercial applications of the new uncrewed underwater vehicle developed under a partnership they announced in March.
In the capability demonstrations, two versions of the partnership’s ANCC+Solus UUV performed in-water missions to demonstrate their fully autonomous and long-range capabilities, Metron said Tuesday.
The demos, which Metron called a “Technology Awareness Day” for the hydrogen fuel cell-powered ANCC+Solus, drew representatives from Canadian, U.S. and U.K. defense agencies and customers from the commercial offshore energy sector.
Metron President and CEO Van Gurley said the ANCC+Solus UUV solutions are not just design ideas but are “actual vehicles, in the water, proving our capabilities for full autonomy, ease of operations and adaptative and precise mission planning for complex extended missions.”
Gurley added that the demonstrations showcase the power of collaboration between the company and Cellula, as well as with NORBIT Oceans, which provided one of the UUVs’ sensors.
Besides the Technology Awareness Day demos, the event also included a tour of Cellula’s production and development facility in Burnaby, Canada.
