The U.S. Army Special Operations Command has tasked Boeing to produce two more MH-47G Block II Chinook aircraft under a $115 million contract that also calls for advanced procurement on future helicopters.
“Whether it’s operating in the dead of night or in difficult terrain, the MH-47G Block II is a proven workhorse for special operations,” said Heather McBryan, cargo programs vice president and program manager for Boeing Defense, Space & Security, in a press release posted Thursday.
The order award brings the total number of MH-47G Block II the U.S. Army acquired from Boeing to 46.
The Block II variant of the military aircraft features a reinforced airframe, redesigned fuel tanks and cutting-edge technologies.
In December 2023, Boeing also secured a contract from the U.S. Special Operations Command to provide continued support for the modernization of SOCOM’s fleet of Chinook helicopters. The $271.2 million deal covers the procurement of MH-47G rotary wing renew build aircraft.
According to the Arlington County, Virginia-headquartered firm, the modernization provides over 20,000 jobs and supports 360 suppliers across 40 states.
Boeing has delivered over 950 Chinooks in 20 countries.
