Austal’s U.S. business arm has christened the future USNS Point Loma, an expeditionary fast transport named after a seaside community of the same name in San Diego, California, with a long-standing naval presence and home to a naval base.
The event was sponsored by Elizabeth Asher, a Point Loma resident, wife of Naval Academy graduate and retired Navy doctor Dean Asher and mother of naval aviator trainee Jacob Asher, Austal USA said Saturday.
USNS Point Loma, with registry number EPF 15, is the second EPF Flight II ship built by the company and one of the 16 EPFs the company is constructing.
Austal USA President Michelle Kruger said, “These Flight II Expeditionary Fast Transports combine the best of the EPF’s transport mission with a new enhanced medical capability that will bring lifesaving support to our forward deployed sailors and Marines and will be a sign of America’s humanitarian presence and support throughout the world’s global commons.”
On Aug. 15, join naval leaders, experts, and innovators from government and industry to discuss maritime security, technological advancements and strategic cooperation among naval forces and industry partners at the 2024 Navy Summit. Click here to register for the event.
