General Dynamics Mission Systems has completed the delivery of the 1000th F-35 nose radome, which protects the airplane’s radar antennas and enhances its navigation and communications capabilities.
The radome also makes the F-35 a highly survivable and connected aircraft, GDMS said.
The company added that the component is installed on F-35s operated by the Marines, the Navy, the Air Force and U.S. foreign military partners.
The nose radomes enable pilots to achieve a higher level of mission success using the F-35, Laura Hooks, vice president and general manager at GDMS, said in a statement.
“Our team is very proud of the advanced design, manufacturing capability, and high-quality products built in Marion, Virginia,” Hooks stressed.
In May 2021, the company delivered the 500th wideband nose radome for integration into the Lockheed Martin-made aircraft.
To date, GDMS employees in Marion, Virginia have developed, produced and tested over 65,000 radomes for more than 50 aircraft.
