Technology industry veteran William Vass has been selected to succeed Susan Penfield as chief technology officer of Booz Allen Hamilton.
Beginning June 17, Vass will lead the development of Booz Allen’s mission-focused artificial intelligence, cyber, software and data-centric offerings, the firm announced from its McLean, Virginia headquarters on Wednesday.
“As we bring transformative technologies to missions of national importance at speed and scale, we welcome Bill’s leadership to further propel our bold innovation agenda,” said Booz Allen President and CEO Horacio Rozanski.
Vass brings over four decades of experience in technology development and delivery to the company. Throughout his career, he has worked in the areas of information technology, large-scale cloud, digital twins, autonomy, quantum and cybersecurity, among numerous others.
In his most recent role as vice president of engineering at Amazon Web Services – which he held for almost 10 years – Vass oversaw the development of software and hardware for emerging technology services.
He has held C-suite positions at both startups and established companies, and was previously a member of the Senior Executive Service within the Department of Defense’s Office of the Chief Information Officer.
Vass said he is “honored to be returning my focus to these essential missions” at Booz Allen, which “has a singular ability to advance the country’s most critical civilian, defense, and national security priorities with emerging technology.”
Booz Allen is sponsoring the Potomac Officers Club’s 2024 Army Summit, where top Army officials and industry leaders will gather to share their thoughts on the service branch’s top challenges and priorities.
