The National Nuclear Security Administration has awarded a potential 20-year, $30 billion contract to PanTeXas Deterrence, a joint venture formed by a BWX Technologies subsidiary, Fluor, SOC and Texas A&M University System, to manage and operate the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas.
SOC, a Day & Zimmermann company, said Friday the contract covers support for life extension programs, surveillance, assembly and dismantlement of nuclear weapons, interim storage and surveillance of plutonium pits and development, testing and fabrication of high explosive components.
Doug Magee, president of SOC, commented “For more than 10 years [2014], our teams have provided the mission-critical protective force operations, perimeter control, static guards, access control, Special Response Teams, Fire, EMS, and Hazmat operations necessary to ensure safe and secure operations at the Pantex Plant and Y-12 National Security Complex – and we are eager to continue to serve the mission as part of PanTeXas Deterrence.”
Earlier, NNSA announced the contract is valued at approximately $1.5 billion annually and has a four-month transition period, five-year base term and three five-year options.
