For General Dynamics Information Technology President Amy Gilliland, one of her company’s most noteworthy contracts in 2023 was winning the recompete of a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid deal that sought to modernize the agency’s accounting system.
Gilliland, a 2024 Wash100 winner, said Thursday in an interview with Nextgov/FCW that the contract would see GDIT infuse the CMS accounting system — one of the largest in the federal government — with artificial intelligence, in order to detect anomalies.
According to Gilliland, customers “thirst” for AI and have been using the technology since before the generative AI boom. As for GDIT, Gilliland said, “I think where we have found success in AI and its adoption is showing proven use cases to the government.”
The CMS recompete win came amid what eventually turned out to be a successful 2023 for GDIT. The IT service management provider saw excellent financial performance and, according to Gilliland, more contract awards “than we have in the history of the company.”
“[We] had a fabulous 2023,” the company official said.
