Bechtel, in partnership with NASA, has positioned the Mobile Launcher 2 at its operational height of 25 feet, marking a milestone in the design, construction and commissioning process of the new launcher.
With the base now at its designated height, Bechtel said Friday the next step will involve installing critical electrical equipment and piping to prepare for the erection of the mobile launcher tower later this year.
The team used a jacking and setting process to raise the mobile launcher at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
In June 2019, Bechtel secured a $383 million NASA contract to produce ML2, which is projected to stand at 390 feet and support missions such as Artemis IV. The company then initiated construction of the launcher’s platform in August 2023.
