L3Harris Technologies‘ Aerojet Rocketdyne business is constructing a facility at its Camden, Arkansas site to increase production of Javelin, Stinger and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System motors as part of a $215.6 million cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense.
The new 65,000-square-feet facility will consolidate manufacturing activities for the GMLRS, Javelin and Stinger propulsion and will enable automated processes to streamline the production of solid rocket motors, L3Harris said Thursday.
“We are aligning product lines to our site centers of excellence, focusing on core capabilities, specialty areas and future demand,” shared Mark Farley, vice president of site operations and manufacturing at Aerojet Rocketdyne. “The move will allow the Camden site to focus on and expand their work manufacturing medium and large solid rocket motors, while our [Orange County, Virginia] site will specialize in small motors.”
The planned manufacturing capacity increase is in line with DOD’s goal of boosting domestic production to replenish supplies of missile systems supporting Ukraine’s defense from Russian attacks.
Aerojet Rocketdyne will also generate more jobs in Virginia as part of the expansion effort.
“While we work to build these new facilities, we are continuing our internal investments to increase capacity in these and other critical programs,” said Farley.
L3Harris launched Aerojet Rocketdyne as its fourth business segment in July 2023 following its $4.7 billion cash purchase of propulsion system builder.
