Robert Moore of Carahsoft Technology said government and industry information technology leaders at a digital transformation roadshow in California discussed how state and local government agencies could improve customer experience and protect the privacy of constituents through cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
In a blog post published Feb. 23, the state and local government market executive at Carahsoft wrote that AI, particularly generative AI, could offer various benefits to agencies, such as handling citizen inquiries, analyzing large data volumes to identify trends, automating repetitive tasks, improving accessibility for people with disabilities and detecting and preventing fraudulent activities.
“By studying generative AI, State and Local agencies can develop policies and guidelines for the responsible use of this technology, including measures to prevent the creation and dissemination of harmful or misleading content,” Moore noted.
He stated that state and local agencies are handling sensitive citizen data and should implement cybersecurity and data privacy measures to uphold public trust.
Multifactor authentication, data encryption, information sharing with other agencies and compliance with data protection regulations are some of the cybersecurity measures he mentioned.
“The path to elevating State and Local Government services requires a strategic incorporation of transformative technologies, notably AI, cybersecurity and data privacy. Leveraging advanced technologies can enhance interactions with constituents, fostering efficiency and transparency,” Moore added.
