Booz Allen Hamilton has named Mac Thornberry, former chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, to its board of directors, effective April 1.
He brings to Booz Allen his expertise and experience in defense technology, policymaking and national security and will serve on the board’s nominating and corporate governance committee and compensation, culture and people panel, the company said Monday.
“As the pace of change accelerates, Mac’s strategic thinking, innovation mindset, and deep knowledge of foreign and domestic national security issues will bring valuable insight to Booz Allen,” said Ralph Shrader, chairman of the board at Booz Allen and a previous Wash100 awardee.
During his time in Congress, Thornberry led efforts to establish the National Nuclear Security Administration within the Department of Energy, create the Department of Homeland Security, enhance oversight of military and cyber operations and advance reforms to improve innovation across the Department of Defense and speed up the delivery of technologies to warfighters.
The former congressman from Texas served for more than a decade on the House Intelligence Committee and was a deputy assistant secretary of State for legislative affairs under President Ronald Reagan’s administration.
Thornberry, who has a law degree from the University of Texas, sits on the board of Fortinet Federal and is chair of CAE USA’s board of directors.
