The Department of State has approved a potential $90 million foreign military sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles and related equipment to Italy.
The FMS covers three requests from the Italian government for a total of 66 Block II+ Sidewinder missile variants and seven tactical guidance units, plus 24 AIM-9X Captive Air Training Missiles and four accompanying guidance units, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
The sale also includes target detectors, containers, training services and equipment, documents and logistical and technical support.
RTX will be the prime contractor for the effort.
The DSCA said the sale will benefit Italy’s F-35 fleet by providing it with training missiles and guidance units.
