HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division has concluded the builder’s sea trials for the San Antonio-class landing platform dock USS Richard M. McCool Jr. in preparation for its delivery to the U.S. Navy in the spring.

The company said Thursday the vessel, with hull number LPD 29, underwent systems testing in the Gulf of Mexico.

LPD 29 was crafted as a tribute to Medal of Honor recipient and World War II Navy Captain Richard McCool Jr. The ship’s launching and christening ceremonies took place in January and June 2022, respectively.

In February 2023, the Navy installed an RTX-built Enterprise Air Surveillance Radar on LPD 29 to augment engagement capabilities and overall self-defense.
