Rigetti Computing has received a contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency to proceed with the second phase of the Quantum Benchmarking Program.
Under the potential $1.5 million award, the company said Tuesday it will collaborate with the University of Technology Sydney, Aalto University and the University of Southern California to develop benchmarks for quantum application performance.
The three-year program aims to establish crucial quantum computing metrics for fault-tolerant systems. Rigetti secured the Phase 1 contract in March 2022.
For Phase 2, the focus will be on identifying the requirements for designing fault-tolerant quantum computers capable of addressing global challenges. Dynamical chemistry simulations and modeling the dynamics of quantum systems will be explored at this stage.
Work under Phase 2 will be carried out through March 2025.
