The Air Force Research Laboratory has released a five-year broad agency announcement describing the research areas of interest of the directed energy directorate.
AFRL will issue standard and topic area group call announcements against the Tactical BAA to seek proposals for specific research initiatives upon identification of technical requirements, according to a SAM.gov notice published Wednesday.
Standard call announcements will provide details on research objectives, proposal requirements, potential funding and submission instructions and may be structured as one-step, two-step or staggered closed.
The service will use TAG call announcements if there is an urgent mission requirement and will only issue such announcements to eligible members of a specific topic area group.
The Tactical BAA has anticipated funding of up to $499 million and will enable the directorate to find innovative platforms for computational development and validation to assess various aspects of existing and future weapon system components and subsystems.
Technical topic areas include laser sources; aero-effects and beam control; laser system technologies, integration and demonstration; laser system modeling and simulation; and satellite custody and characterization; artificial intelligence and autonomy for space domain awareness; and high power electromagnetics modeling and effects.
