Intel has unveiled plans to expand its semiconductor research, development and production operations in Oregon as part of broader efforts to help restore and reinforce U.S. chip manufacturing leadership.
The company said Monday it will upgrade its existing semiconductor technology development facilities at the Gordon Moore Park in Hillsboro, Oregon, to accommodate next-generation process technology and tools.
Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel, said at a recent company event that the project is part of plans to invest more than $100 billion in expanding and modernizing its U.S. research facilities over five years.
With anticipated support from the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act, the investment will also add construction jobs in the region.
“This investment further solidifies our commitment to the Silicon Forest and rebalancing the global semiconductor supply chain,” said Ann Kelleher, executive vice president and general manager of Intel’s Technology Development Group.
