The Defense Innovation Unit has chosen a subsidiary of aerospace technology company Metrea to provide software for game engine-based U.S. Air Force pilot training.
Metrea Simulations has been selected as the sole provider of Virtual Training for Air Dominance software to facilitate a synthetic training environment for USAF’s fighter and bomber pilots, the company said Friday.
The Stockholm, Sweden-based simulation business will produce a virtual flight model of the T-38C jet trainer as part of the project.
Metrea’s NOR platform uses Unreal Engine 5, a three-dimensional game design tool, and allows pilots to train using a virtual training headset.
The VTRAD program is intended for the 19th Air Force and the service branch’s Air Education and Training Command.
