The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering will host an industry day on Sept. 20 to provide details on its new investment program to advance the domestic production of bioproducts for defense and national security applications.

The Biomanufacturing Industry Day will be held in Berkeley, California, and discuss the strategic timeline of the Department of Defense’s investment in commercial-scale biomanufacturing and strategy to align domestic production capabilities to the defense market’s requirements, OUSD R&E said Thursday.

DOD will also seek to collect industry input on new technologies to strengthen the U.S. supply chain infrastructure and gather insights and reflections on the program’s goals.

In September 2022, the Pentagon announced $1.2 billion in biomanufacturing investments after President Joe Biden signed an executive order to advance the domestic biotechnology and biomanufacturing capacity.
