Google, George Mason University Team Up to Groom Students Into Cybersecurity Professionals

Google has signed an agreement to provide George Mason University students access to select cybersecurity and artificial intelligence training and certification programs on the company’s cloud platform.

Christian Michael, public sector training lead at Google Cloud, wrote in a blog post published Wednesday the partnership aims to help fill talent gaps in the cybersecurity industry, a shortage that is projected to reach 3.4 million people by the end of this year.

Under the pact, George Mason students will have the chance to earn a Google Cybersecurity Certificate, which will enable them to connect with 150 employers from the industry.

They could also take the Google Cloud Security Engineer or Generative AI learning paths, or take on-demand courses through the Google Cloud Computing Foundations.

“As AI continues to transform the way we live and work, it is essential that we train the next generation of security professionals to defend against the ever-evolving threats posed by this technology,” said Katharyn White, Google Public Sector’s director of marketing.

“The partnership between Google Cloud and George Mason University is a critical step in this effort.”
