Sentient Tests AI-Powered ViDAR Optical Sensor on VXE30 Uncrewed Aerial System; Edge Autonomy’s Joshua Stinson Quoted

Sentient Vision Systems has conducted a live demonstration of its artificial intelligence-powered visual detection and ranging payload on Edge Autonomy‘s VXE30 vertical take-off and landing uncrewed aerial system.

ViDAR is a size, weight and power-optimized optical radar system that uses AI, computer vision and electro-optic and infrared sensors to detect very small objects and expand aircraft coverage in search missions, Edge Autonomy said Tuesday.

The search system can be installed on small Group 2 and NATO Class 1 UAS such as the VXE30 for use in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions as well as maritime patrol and border protection.

“ViDAR’s passive detection system will further the VXE30’s capabilities to remain undetected in a contested environment while carrying a powerful maritime detection sensor that provides a real-time picture of the maritime domain,” said Joshua Stinson, chief growth officer of Edge Autonomy.

The joint capability will be exhibited at DSEI 2023 from Sept. 12 to 15 in London.
