The State Department has approved a potential $105 million foreign military sale of equipment and services to the government of Romania to modernize 32 F-16 fighter jets procured from Norway.
Lockheed Martin will serve as the principal contractor on the potential FMS deal that covers the provision of cryptographic devices, joint mission planning systems, night vision devices and other equipment and services needed to upgrade the F-16 Mid-Life Update Block 10/15 aircraft, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Friday.
Romania also requested secure communications equipment, precision navigation, spare parts, integration and test support and engineering and logistics support services.
DSCA noted that Romania will use the requested equipment to boost operational readiness and enhance defense capabilities.
The proposed transaction does not require the deployment of contractor and government representatives to Romania.
