Pixxel has raised $36 million in a Series B funding round and will use the money to continue building hyperspectral satellites designed to collect Earth imagery.
The financing event, which brings Pixxel’s total venture capital funds raised to $71 million, also supports the development of an artificial intelligence-based space data analytics platform, the company said Thursday.
Google was among the new investors in the fundraising round, while returning investors were Athera, Blume Ventures, growX, Lightspeed, Radical Ventures and Sparta.
“With this round of funding, we are even closer now to realizing our mission of building a health monitor for the planet and empowering people around the world to make informed decisions about our collective well-being,” said Awais Ahmed, co-founder and CEO of Pixxel.
The company aims to deploy six satellites into orbit next year and 18 more by 2025.
Pixxel booked a five-year contract to modeling, simulation and data evaluation services to the National Reconnaissance Office’s Commercial Systems Program Office.
