Arconic will ramp up the production of high purity aluminum at its facility in Davenport, Iowa, under a $45.5 million contract from the Department of Defense’s Office for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy.
The funding will be used to design and install a new furnace and implement new control and automation systems to accommodate the increased production of the critical material used in defense and aerospace applications, DOD said Friday.
HPA materials are used to manufacture missiles, munitions, aerospace platforms and tactical ground vehicles.
“The company receiving funding is involved in a manufacturing sector identified by President Biden as critical for protecting domestic supply chains,” said Laura Taylor-Kale, assistant secretary of defense for industrial base policy.
Arconic produces aluminum sheets, plates and extrusions for aerospace, automotive, commercial transportation, industrial, packaging and construction markets.
