Kaus Phaltankar, co-founder and CEO of Caveonix, said the lack of sensitivity towards data privacy and desensitization to the exploitation of personal data are some of the reasons why many consumers have become indifferent to the importance of safeguarding personal data.
Phaltankar wrote in an article published Friday on Intelligent CISO that social media companies should take measures to protect user data and enhance data security and one is empowering users by providing them control over their data.
He noted that such companies should enable users to easily customize the visibility and sharing of their personal information.
Social media organizations should also educate users about data privacy and related best practices, simplify privacy settings to improve ease of use and leverage the potential of influencers in educating users, Phaltankar noted.
“By engaging influencers to raise awareness, social media platforms can actively serve the public by providing valuable insights and guidance on cybersecurity measures. This strategic collaboration not only enhances public education but also strengthens the platform’s commitment to users’ data privacy and safety,” he added.
