A Capgemini Research Institute study has found that 73 percent of aerospace and defense companies have a long-term roadmap in place for digital twin technology, up from 57 percent of A&D organizations surveyed in 2021.

The institute said Thursday it surveyed 150 A&D organizations in April and found that such entities said they plan to invest 2.7 percent of their revenue in digital twin efforts, reflecting a 40 percent increase from the previous financial year.

The report found that 61 percent of A&D companies said they consider digital twins a strategic part of their digital transformation initiative and 75 percent said they believe digital twins enhance value from the outset of the design process.

The study showed that 70 percent of surveyed organizations mentioned reduced time to market as a top-line consideration for investing in digital twins, while 75 percent said improving operational efficiency serves as a key driver for investing in the technology.

Sixty-seven percent of respondents cited improving sustainability as a key driver for their investments in digital twins.
