True Anomaly, a space security and sustainability start-up, has raised $17 million in a Series A funding round led by Eclipse and will use the capital to test its Jackal autonomous orbital vehicle.

The company said Thursday the recent round brings the company’s total funding amount to $30 million and will support the validation of technical and operational capabilities of the Jackal spacecraft, which is designed to operate in low Earth, geostationary and other orbits.

True Anomaly will also invest in scaling up the production of Jackal in late 2023.

Jackal is the first spacecraft the company has created since its inception in 2022. In less than a year, the Colorado Springs, Colorado-headquartered company opened a 35,000-square-foot factory in Denver and hired 57 employees.

The Series A funding round saw participation from Riot Ventures, Champion Hill Ventures, Space.VC and Narya.
