Boeing has handed a second pair of O3b mPOWER broadband satellites over to SES, four months after the first two systems reached medium Earth orbit to provide connectivity for government and enterprise customers.
The deliveries were part of an 11-unit production contract with the Luxembourg-headquartered satellite operator, Boeing said Tuesday.
03b mPOWER is designed with a software-defined payload architecture. SES needs to deploy six satellites into equatorial MEO to provide connectivity services across the globe.
The first pair lifted aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket Dec. 16 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
Efforts to build seven more satellites are underway at Boeing’s factory and the company said its production team cut the build time for bus modules by at least 50 percent.
