Biometric and authentication technology provider iProov was tapped by the Department of Homeland Security to assist Customs and Border Protection in ensuring secure border crossings.
iProov will work to further develop its biometric offerings suite, Genuine Presence Assurance, and allow for the use of the technology to help CBP automate the process for international travelers at points of entry in the country, the technology startup said Tuesday.
Efforts are part of the $749,000 Phase 5 award, which was under the Silicon Valley Innovation program of DHS’ Science and Technology Directorate.
Using iProov’s Genuine Presence Assurance technology, travelers would be able to verify their identity and relevant documentation using their personal devices before arriving at the border.
Andrew Bud, founder and CEO of iProov, said the company’s ability to support key program tenets such as inclusivity, user experience and identity verification poses significant obstacle for unauthorized individuals seeking entry and enables seamless process for approved travelers.
