Booz Allen EVP Steve Escaravage Lands 2nd Wash100 Award for Advocating AI Operationalization Framework - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Executive Mosaic is pleased to announce the selection of Steve Escaravage, an executive vice president of artificial intelligence at Booz Allen Hamilton, to the 2023 Wash100 for his commitment to championing responsible integration of artificial intelligence into operations.

Escaravage, who leads Booz Allen’s analytics practice and AI services business, has been chosen two consecutive times to receive the Wash100 Award. Don’t forget to cast a vote for your favorite awardee from this year’s class of notable government contracting figures at Wash100.com!

“Steve continues to energize Booz Allen’s preeminent ability to weave their solutions in and out of government’s mission,” said Jim Garrettson, CEO of Executive Mosaic and creator of the Wash100 Award.

In a February 2022 Venture Beat piece, Escaravage outlined a framework he believes can help organizations close the gap between conceptual development and practical implementation of artificial intelligence tools.

“By strategically leveraging AIops through a comprehensive, proven framework, IT leaders can close the chasm between conceptual innovation and real-world deployment, helping the U.S. stay ahead in the global race for AI supremacy,” he wrote.

Escaravage told FedScoop in a June interview that the Department of Defense’s Responsible AI Strategy and Implementation Pathway offers additional guidance for collaboration between DOD and companies.

“I view it as industry’s responsibility to provide the department insights on the next layer of standards and practices to assist the department’s efforts,” the two-time Wash100 honoree remarked.

In December, Booz Allen and C3 AI unveiled a partnership to offer consultation services for public sector customers to overcome challenges associated with AI adoption and implementation.

“An inflection point has occurred across the U.S. federal government enterprise where the benefit derived from leading commercial software products is noticeably increasing relative to the impact of bespoke solutions,” Escaravage said at the time.

Aside from its collaboration efforts, Booz Allen is working to advance AI tools for complex societal and defense issues through research projects.

“It’s important to have one foot in the research, especially given how fast innovation moves in this field. Booz Allen stays up to date on AI innovation through a combination of partnerships and dedicated experts,” Escaravage said in an Executive Spotlight interview with ExecutiveBiz.

His team uses lessons learned from research and laboratory experiments to test how AI tools can address real constraints witnessed during government missions.

During the interview, Escaravage also highlighted a call from the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence to achieve a state of military AI readiness by 2025.

“I think that industry, in support of the federal government, should be responding to that call to action. We should all be working together to be AI ready by 2025. I actually think that’s table stakes. We have to get there,” he added.

Escaravage works with other industry leaders to deliver recommendations to DOD on advancing the adoption of commercial technology like AI as a member of the Atlantic Council Commission. Co-chaired by previous Wash100 awardees Mark Esper and Deborah Lee James, the commission advocates for modernizing defense acquisition processes.

Executive Mosaic congratulates Steve Escaravage and the Booz Allen Hamilton team for their 2023 Wash100 win. Voting is underway for the ranking of winners at Wash100.com, so be sure to cast a vote for your favorite awardee from this year’s class.
