The U.S. Navy has installed the Raytheon Technologies-developed Enterprise Air Surveillance Radar on a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock, marking the completion of EASR system deliveries for the ship.

The antenna’s SPY-6(V)2 rotating variant was specifically installed on the future USS Richard McCool Jr. and was designed to provide carrier and amphibious ships with hardware and software commonality as well as enhanced engagement and overall self-defense, the service branch said Thursday.

Raytheon developed the EASR under a potential $723.1 million Navy contract that it secured in 2016.

LPD 29 is an HII-built ship in honor of Medal of Honor recipient and World War II Navy Captain Richard McCool Jr. The vessel’s christening took place in June 2022.

Cedric McNeal, amphibious warfare program manager at the Navy’s program executive office for ships, said LPD 29 is next set for systems activation and testing in the sea trials scheduled later this year.
