SpiderOak Mission Systems will help the Department of Defense create a hybrid architecture that aims to enable space-based communications by bringing together government and commercial networks.
The Defense Innovation Unit has selected SpiderOak’s OrbitSecure software to demonstrate end-to-end cybersecurity in the space domain as part of the project, the company said Wednesday.
OrbitSecure uses a combination of zero trust encryption and distributed ledger technology for data protection and user authentication.
“Jointly we are enabling a foundational layer of commercial industry and allied capabilities to ensure our national security is protected from the ground and from space,” said John Moberly, senior vice president for space at SpiderOak.
DIU also awarded contracts to Microsoft and Amazon’s cloud computing business and Project Kuiper to support the second phase of the hybrid space architecture.
