U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command has partnered with Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies, to develop best practices and methods for certifying the airworthiness of military avionic systems that use multicore processor architectures.
Collins Aerospace said Monday it entered into a cooperative research and development agreement with Army CCDC Aviation and Missile Center to guide the implementation of modular open system architectures for the Future Vertical Lift program.
“Working together, we will focus on shortening certification timelines and enhancing affordability to deliver warfighter overmatch in support of the future and current fleets of military rotorcraft platforms and beyond,” said Dave Schreck, vice president of military avionics and helicopters for Collins Aerospace.
The company operates a Huntsville, Alabama-located Army Customer Experience Center that serves as a testbed and demonstration area for the service branch’s key aviation programs, including the development of multicore processors and MOSA systems.
