Aerojet Rocketdyne has established a center of excellence in Orlando, Florida, for manufacturing a propulsion technology that will power a prototype anti-submarine weapon for the U.S. Navy.

The company said it will produce Stored Chemical Energy Propulsion System boilers, tail cones and afterbody for the MK 54 MOD 2 Advanced Lightweight Torpedo at the new facility.

“Having the only SCEPS manufacturing capability within the U.S. industrial base will enable our company to further support our nation’s undersea warfare needs,” said Eileen Drake, president and CEO of Aerojet.

Aerojet is developing the subsystem as part of a $63.2 million other transaction agreement awarded in February 2020.

The production facility is located at the company’s Coleman Aerospace business site.
