Dana Barnes, senior vice president for U.S. public sector at Palo Alto Networks and a 2022 Wash100 Award recipient, has shared that the company is continuing its investment in delivering integrated platform of capabilities to government agencies in an effort to help them gain a complete cybersecurity perspective.
In an interview with CyberScoop, Barnes said Palo Alto is also focusing on services to prepare for cyber attack recovery and continued operation because “everyone is eventually going to be compromised.” He thinks the industry will invest in the same areas.
The executive also discussed the Office of Management and Budget’s zero trust requirement for agencies and its impacts on government contractors and system integrators.
On the subject of federal agencies’ ability to respond to their IT environments being compromised, Barnes said it varies by department. However, he underscored that, in general, the government has enhanced its cybersecurity year after year with help from available funding.
