A Nutanix study has found that the adoption of multicloud platforms by public sector organizations has outpaced the global average.
The 2022 Enterprise Cloud Index report showed that 47 percent of U.S. federal subsector entities reported using multicloud as their primary information technology operating model and nearly 70 percent of organizations in the global public education subsector reported multicloud adoption, Nutanix said Tuesday.
Nutanix commissioned U.K.-based market research firm Vanson Bourne to survey 1,700 IT leaders worldwide between August and September 2021 and found that 75 percent of respondents said they consider a hybrid, multicloud model as the ideal IT architecture that could help address challenges related to security, data integration, interoperability and cost.
“The evolution to a multicloud IT infrastructure that spans a mix of private and public clouds is underway across the globe, with the public sector on the fast track,” said Chip George, vice president of public sector at Nutanix.
“Public sector organizations must look to hybrid multicloud solutions that meet security requirements while delivering visibility, manageability, and consistent policy-enforcement coupled with tight cost control across environments,” added George.
The study showed that 75 percent of public sector organizations transitioned one or more applications to a new IT environment in the past 12 months, citing security, compliance with regulatory requirements, gaining control and performance as top reasons for the move. Despite this figure, 77 percent of U.S. federal organizations have expressed concerns about application mobility.
When asked about their top IT priorities, public sector respondents said they will focus on security posture improvement, storage, 5G implementation and multicloud management over the next 12 to 18 months.
