Northrop Grumman has selected Ansys, a provider of simulation and digital mission engineering technologies, to support the development of a U.S. Space Force ground-based deep-space radars.

Ansys said Thursday its offerings helped Northrop create a digital twin prototype environment for the Deep-Space Advanced Radar Capability, which will be designed to monitor activities in high orbits from ground sites.

The two companies will also work together on examining radio frequency systems, conducting mission-level analyses and using digital thread capabilities to create DARC Site 1 tech by 2025 and establish two more radar sites in the following years.

Shane Emswiler, senior vice president of products at Ansys, welcomed the company’s collaboration on digitally designing and validating a critical U.S. national security system.

In February, Northrop won a $341 million contract from the Space Force’s Space Systems Command for the development, testing and delivery of DARC radars to augment the U.S. military space surveillance network.
