A new study by Next Pathway has found that at least 78 percent of information technology leaders report a rise in demand for migrating enterprise workloads to the cloud as companies seek to generate revenue streams through digital transformation efforts.
Next Pathway surveyed approximately 1,200 IT decision-makers and professionals in February and found that only about 34 percent of respondents said their organizations have completed cloud migrations.
Cloud services that hold a notable share of the public cloud market are Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform.
Nearly 50 percent of respondents said moving existing applications to the cloud is one of the services they want cloud service providers to offer, according to Next Pathway’s report titled The State of Enterprise Cloud Migrations.
Other services cited by respondents are multicloud strategies, increased storage capacity, a robust partner ecosystem and industry-specific platforms.
“Companies are eager to move to the cloud fast. Cloud Providers that move workloads to their platform will reap huge financial benefits and a long-term competitive advantage,” said Clara Angotti, president of Next Pathway.
“However, companies need help. Moving to the cloud is not easy. Companies are asking for more services that will automate their migration and mitigate their risk to enable transformation,” added Angotti.
According to the report, 47.5 percent of respondents said their companies lack the automated tooling to accelerate the transition of code from on-premises to the cloud environment.
Although 90 percent of IT leaders recognize the benefits of a hybrid cloud strategy, Next Pathway found that only 30 percent of respondents said they adopt hybrid cloud platforms.
