HII has conducted a sea launching activity for a newly built U.S. Coast Guard Legend-class national security cutter from its Ingalls Shipbuilding facility in Pascagoula, Missouri.
The launch of the USCG Cutter Calhoun came months before its scheduled christening in June and delivery to the Coast Guard in early 2023, HII said Sunday.
USCGC Calhoun, named after the first master chief petty of the Coast Guard, will join the service branch’s flagship fleet as the 10th NSC to support manned and unmanned aircraft during drug interdiction, global illegal fishing, disaster relief and defense support missions.
“The national security cutters are critically important to the safety and security of our country,” said Ingalls Shipbuilding President Kari Wilkinson.
As sole designer and provider, Ingalls Shipbuilding is currently constructing two Legend-class that would bring the number of vessels delivered to the Coast Guard to 12.
