Verizon’s government arm has secured three task orders totaling $966.5 million from the U.S. Department of Defense to reshape and evolve various network architectures.
The GSA Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions task order awards call for Verizon Public Sector to assist the Pentagon, the DOD National Capital Region and Fort Belvoir with technical needs primarily involving voice and data, the company said Wednesday.
“Our team of professional and managed services experts are in lock step with DOD’s strategic priorities and we stand ready to help their leadership adapt to the increasingly sophisticated requirements and growing network infrastructure demands,” said Maggie Hallbach, senior vice president of Verizon Public Sector.
Verizon will collaborate with the Pentagon to create a converged-enterprise hub for the organization’s network by converting its military and civilian users from copper-based phone lines to an internet protocol-based approach. Work under this $515.3 million task order will consolidate 52,000 separate voice lines into a single IP unit.
The DOD-NCR leads homeland security duties for Washington, D.C. and bordering Virginia and Maryland locations. For the DOD-NCR task order, Verizon is expected to service and connect 370 points of contact in the department’s jurisdiction with voice, transport and internet capabilities. This task order is worth $432.9 million.
Fort Belvoir is the home of the U.S. Army garrison, which offers services to over 200,000 active and retired military personnel and their kin, as well as dispatches intelligence and logistics to a range of D.C. agencies. Under the $18.3 million Fort Belvoir task order, Verizon will construct a communications system for the garrison consisting of voice, transport and internet.
The three task orders also entail Verizon’s conception of an IT plan for the future that includes upgrades and a sustainable path for continuous technological modernization for DOD components.
According to Hallbach, the new task orders are in keeping with a history of partnership between Verizon and the technology-forward DOD. She also shared that the awards follow advancements in 5G and a series of professional services assignments the company received in 2021.
Among these was another task order under the GSA’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract to work alongside the Naval District Washington in establishing an internet protocol voice service, awarded in October 2021.
Hallbach was appointed senior vice president of Verizon Public Sector in February.
