Data companies DataDirect Networks and Aspen Systems have teamed up to help the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory predict and model the behavior of coastal systems as part of an initiative.

DDN will combine its expertise in artificial intelligence and cloud data management with Aspen’s high-power computing knowledge for the PNNL Coastal Observations, Mechanisms, and Predictions Across Systems and Scales project, the later company said Thursday.

The partnership’s combined technologies are expected to support PNNL’s processing of large datasets on-premise and in the cloud to produce coastal system modeling data at a small timeframe.

“Aspen Systems has the knowledge base to design a custom HPC solution around unique computing requirements, and DDN has the expertise to help customers manage at scale data better, faster and safer, today and in the future,” said Jeff Jordan, vice president of federal sales at DDN.

Both DDN and Aspen Systems currently provide computational science research services to government agencies, aerospace companies, automotive organizations and other customers.
