A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration satellite that carries L3Harris Technologies’ high-resolution weather observation technology is set to launch on March 1.

Once in space, the orbiting NOAA Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-T with the L3Harris-made Advanced Baseline Imager will support environmental monitoring and severe weather detection efforts of the U.S., the aerospace and defense company said Wednesday.

ABI will provide video coverage of weather and environmental systems through 16 spectral bands.

GOES-T’s ABI is the third of four imaging systems developed by L3Harris for the GOES-R series of satellites, which are aimed toward improving NOAA’s capabilities to study the effects of climate change and forecast meteorological events and severe weather conditions.

The fourth imager was just installed into the GOES-U spacecraft in January and is set for launch in 2024.
