Sigma Defense has purchased San Diego-based software development and systems engineering company Solute in a strategy to build a comprehensive portfolio of technology and service offerings for the Department of Defense.
Solute CEO John Lyons will continue to manage operations of the acquired business, while the combined entity will work to help customers implement software-based approaches for connecting data, systems and people, Sigma Defense said Wednesday.
Matt Jones, CEO of Sigma Defense, said the acquisition marks another step for the company to further its support to program modernization projects at DOD in various areas such as autonomy, communications and command and control areas.
He added that the company looks to facilitate software enablement for customers’ critical missions through open source and platform-as-a-service delivery concepts.
Solute holds a spot on a $249.7 million U.S. Navy contract vehicle announced in March for technical support services to the military branch’s cybersecurity, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems. The business also received a $46.6 million Phase III Small Business Innovation Research contract to help the service engineer systems, software and networks.
