Cognosante President James Gordon Named to 2022 Wash100 for His Leadership in Health IT and Customer Experience - top government contractors - best government contracting event

James Gordon, president of Cognosante, has been selected to receive Executive Mosaic’s 2022 Wash100 Award for his work helping steward the health information technology company’s pursuit of contract opportunities in the federal sector and offering thought leadership in the customer experience framework.

This marks Gordon’s first Wash100 win. He joined Cognosante in March 2019 to hold the newly created role of president and works alongside founder and CEO Michele Kang. In his capacity, Gordon spearheads the Falls Church, Virginia-based contractor’s overall strategic direction and growth as well as oversees the day-to-day operations of the company.

In January 2022, Cognosante scored a $545 million task order to provide DevSecOps support for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Supply Chain Management Product Line, just less than one month after the company announced a $110 million task order to implement an Enterprise Cloud Fax service across the VA organization.

Gordon also leads the company’s CognoConnected business sector, which was launched in November 2021 to focus on customer experience optimization, access to information, customer engagement and automation and analytics program areas.

“CognoConnected helps public sector organizations modernize and optimize their CX programs, enterprise systems and business process operations,” he wrote in a Dec. 1 industry insight article. “For example, our team reduced resolution time by 50% for a major healthcare agency by developing and implementing a casework process tailored to the specific needs of agents, brokers, and assisters, and re-configuring the customer relationship management (CRM) system to support new workstreams.”

In a separate thought leadership post, Gordon said the pandemic created a new paradigm for managing customer service, increased public service needs and shifted health care delivery to remote or hybrid platforms.

“The need for public services increased while public health demanded a shift to remote or hybrid operations. Customer experience teams – from customer service representatives to supervisors, quality analysts to technologists – adapted. We developed new ways of working that enabled greater flexibility, scalability, and security, while continuing to provide critical services to agencies and their customers.”

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services sought CognoConnected’s help to address enrollment challenges in the federally run health insurance marketplace, as part of the $200 million Enrollment Resolution & Reconciliation and Form 1095-A Data Reporting contract in November 2021.

In October, Cognosante secured a potential $70 million contract for administration support to the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work program.

“The goal of this program is for beneficiaries to become employed and financially independent – a mission which reasserts the dignity of purpose through work and provides long-term success and fulfillment,” said Gordon, adding that the company and its J. Lodge subsidiary will help SSA to create job opportunities for people with disabilities.

Prior to Cognosante, Gordon served as a division president at Maximus and held an 11-year career at General Dynamics’ IT business.

Executive Mosaic congratulates James Gordon and the Cognosante organization on their selection to the premier group of the most significant contributors in the GovCon arena.
