L3Harris Technologies has received the approval of the Space Development Agency for its final design of the Tracking Layer Tranche 0 missile-tracking satellite.
The company said Thursday it can now proceed with the development, integration test and acceptance phase of its $193 million Tranche 0 work for the agency ahead of a planned satellite launch in 2023.
“L3Harris purchased subsystems and other material and began building while completing the design to demonstrate speed to deployment,” shared Ed Zoiss, president of the company’s space and airborne systems.
Under a contract awarded in 2020, L3Harris will provide the SDA with four overhead infrared imaging space vehicles that can track hypersonic missiles as part of the proposed National Defense Space Architecture.
