Los Angeles-based technology company Mira will deliver a new augmented reality headset to Travis Air Force Base to help augment its maintenance activities with the new technology.
Travis AFB said Sunday its maintainers will use Mira’s Prism Pro headset technology to communicate with subject matter experts across the globe and gain insight on how to address maintenance issues.
The technology includes a head-up display, a hands-free AR headset and interactive workflow tools to help users handle technical orders and remotely facilitate troubleshooting.
Esteban Castellanos, Department of Defense program manager at Mira, said the Prism Pro functions similarly to the fictional on-board AR technology seen in the Iron Man movies.
“The Prism Pro headset functions in much the same way by empowering remote access to SMEs, shrinking the knowledge gap between deployed Airmen and their leadership back at home,” he added.
Mira developed the headset under a Small Business Innovation Research award and in collaboration with the base’s Phoenix Spark Cell program, which partners with external entities to deliver new, innovative technologies.
