The federal business organization of Siemens has received a $1.78 million contract to showcase the potential use of digital twin technology in an advanced manufacturing program run by the Food and Drug Administration’s Office of Counterterrorism and Emerging Threats.
Under the multiyear contract, Siemens Government Technologies will implement industrial software and assemble a digital design and manufacturing line to demonstrate the application of digital threats to medical device production, the company said Friday.
The demo seeks to facilitate education and industry adoption of modern processes that could help the life sciences industry to address supply chain challenges and fast-track the regulatory review of new products.
“In addition to helping the FDA gain new perspectives in developing industry guidance, evaluation of submissions, and preparing for the next disruption; this technology showcase will also help demonstrate to manufacturers the possibilities that exist today to accelerate product development, improve performance, increase production capacity, and enable more flexible and agile manufacturing networks,” said Barbara Humpton, president and CEO of Siemens and five-time Wash100 Award.
Tina Dolph, president and CEO of Siemens Government Technologies and three-time Wash100 awardee, noted that supply chains are the “true lifeblood” of our nation’s ability to respond to a crisis, and that the company will support the FDA’s consequential and impactful work in this key mission.
In the showcase, Siemens Digital Industries will utilize its Software Xcelerator portfolio, which notably includes product lifecycle management, Industrial Internet of Things, manufacturing execution and process design modeling and simulation capabilities.
This contract win follows Siemens’ $14 million task order to modernize DISA infrastructure earlier this week.
