Leonardo has agreed to supply over 1,200 more pointer trackers for a Northrop Grumman-led infrared countermeasures program under the U.S. Army.

Leonardo said Monday it will deliver the trackers from the U.K. to support the Army’s Common Infrared Countermeasures system, which is designed to protect helicopters from infrared-guided missiles.

The deliveries under the new five-year agreement serve as an addition to 500 existing pointer trackers, which Northrop began receiving in 2016.

The pointer trackers represent Leonardo’s directed infrared countermeasures technology that the company designs and manufactures in the U.K.

CIRCM has passed its six-month phase of initial operational test and evaluation. The Army plans to equip Apache, Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters with the system.
